The building at 721 Broadway in Kingston, New York has a long and fascinating history that reflects the evolution of Midtown Kingston itself. Over the decades, the property has continually adapted to new industries and new generations of businesses.
The structure was originally built in the 1940s as a Chevrolet dealership, serving the rapidly growing automobile market of the post-war era. Its large open floor plans, high ceilings, and durable industrial construction were ideal for automotive sales and service operations.
As Kingston’s economy evolved, the building was later repurposed as a vocational education (Vo-Tech) training center for Ulster BOCES, where students developed technical and trade skills that supported the region’s workforce. Following that chapter, the property transitioned again and operated as National Micronetics, manufacturing facility, reflecting the industrial base that once played a significant role in the Hudson Valley economy.
In the following decades, the building entered another unique phase when it became the home of WTZA-TV 62, a local television station that broadcast from the site for roughly twenty years. During this period the building was adapted for media production, housing studios, offices, and broadcast infrastructure.
In 2005, the property was purchased by Jeremy Ellenbogen, a seasoned media professional who recognized the building’s potential to serve a new generation of creative and technology-focused businesses. Drawing on his background in media production and entrepreneurship, Jeremy began transforming the property into a collaborative professional workspace.
In July 2006, the building was officially relaunched as Seven21 Media Center. The vision was to create a professional environment where media companies, technology firms, startups, and independent professionals could operate in private offices while sharing key resources and being part of a larger business community.
Since its launch, Seven21 Media Center has grown into a thriving professional hub with more than 40 office spaces and a diverse mix of companies across industries including technology, media, marketing, consulting, and creative services.
Today, as the building approaches two decades as Seven21 Media Center, it continues its long tradition of adaptation and innovation—providing flexible workspace in the heart of Midtown Kingston, and contributing to the ongoing revitalization of one of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods.
